Owned by: Satya Conger & Wendy Stachowicz
Founded by: Sonia Peterson, 1987

Hairpolice isn’t just a salon. It’s a movement. Originally founded in 1987 by visionary dreadlock artist Sonia Peterson, Hairpolice became the birthplace of the dread perm technique and launched the iconic “Spread the Dread” tour, where Sonia traveled the country giving locs to anyone who would have them. She was a mentor to many, and her legacy lives on through Satya and Wendy, who continue specializing in dreadlocks and extensions with that same fearless creativity and community spirit.

✨ Satya Conger
Satya began doing dreadlocks in 1999 and shortly after began her own loc journey.
“I’ve had my locs for 25 years now, and I can’t imagine being without them.”

Her must-have Dollylocks product is the Refreshing Spray
“I literally spritz it on all my clients (and myself) all day long. The Mint Tea scent is my favorite — it smells SO good!!!”

Her advice to clients:
“Always remember that your locs are a journey. No one’s path is the same. Everyone’s hair dreads a little differently, and they’re ever-changing and ever-growing, just like we are.”

✨ Wendy Stachowicz
Wendy was introduced to the world of locs in 1994 when she started working at Hairpolice. She’s loved watching all the different techniques evolve over the years.

She has worn locs off and on and is currently rocking some gorgeous burgundy wool dreads as a peekaboo alongside her human hair extensions.

Her favorite Dollylocks products are the Refreshing Spray and the Conditioning Oil
“It’s not too heavy and great on my scalp.”

Her advice:
“Get a good maintenance every 2 to 3 months to keep your sections clean and make sure new hair is dreading as it grows.”

We are so honored to spotlight these two incredible artists who continue to celebrate the roots of Hairpolice while evolving their craft and community with every loc they touch.

Stay tuned for pictures of their work on our socials in the coming days!
